Seven members of the St. Croix Swim Club, based out of Stillwater, competed at the National Club Swimming Association Junior National Swim Championships in Orlando, Fla. March 19-23.

NCSA hosts junior nationals annually to all USA swimmers ages 18 and under who meet the qualifying time standards. The St. Croix Swim Club placed 20th overall out of 125 teams.

Shane Blinkman of Hudson competed in six events at the meet, breaking his own Minnesota state records in two of them, including a first place time of 48.76 seconds in the 100 individual medley, over a half-second faster than his previous mark.

He also took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1 minute, 45.77 seconds. He took fourth in the 100 breaststroke, breaking his own Minnesota state record in the process, while placing sixth in the 100 butterfly, seventh in the 100 backstroke and 15th in the 200 freestyle. The state records are Minnesota records because St. Croix Swim Club is a Minnesota team.

Shane's twin brother Cale Blinkman swam in five events over the course of the week, with best times in four of them. He placed 42nd in the 50 breaststroke, 64th in the 50 backstroke, 70th in the 100 backstroke, 106th in the 100 breaststroke, and 93rd in the 50 freestyle. He touched the wall in the 50 freestyle in 21.59 seconds.

Other St. Croix Swim Team members included Abby Schwartz of Forest Lake, who will study and swim at Nova Southeastern in Florida, Alivia Lindorfer of North St. Paul, will continue to swim for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Gabi Baldwin of Lake Elmo, Eleanor Wilke of Mahtomedi and Will Whittington of Stillwater.

Shane Blinkman will continue to compete in the water and study at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., and Cale Blinkman will study and swim at the University of Minnesota.
