The high school football season kicks off Friday night, Aug. 20, and here’s three games to keep an eye on:
Football: St. Croix Central vs. New Richmond
The Tigers have left the Middle Border Conference to join the Big Rivers Conference this season but before playing their first official BRC game they’ll open the season against their old MBC foe St. Croix Central in a nonconference game in Hammond.
Details: Friday, Aug. 20, 7 p.m., St. Croix Central Annabelle D. Hanson Sports Complex, Hammond
Football: Hudson vs. Sun Prairie East
Hudson will kick off the season at home against Sun Prairie East, who is playing its first game after the Sun Prairie school district split into two schools-- Sun Prairie East and Sun Prairie West-- at the end of last year.
Details: Friday, Aug. 20, 7 p.m., Raider Stadium, Hudson
Football: River Falls at Menomonie
There will be a pair of new head coaches at the helm when River Falls and Menomonie square off in nonconference play to kick off the season. Former Wildcat offensive coordinator Ryan Scherz steps into the head coaching role left vacant when David Crail resigned to take the River Falls activities director job, while Mike Sinz replaces his old high school coach Joe LaBuda at Menomonie after coaching at Eau Claire Memorial the past four seasons.
