WIAA State Track: RF, Hudson girls grab medals
Hudson junior Bailee Dierks reached the podium in the 100 meter hurdles for the second straight year and both Hudson and Rivers Falls girls' earned medals in the relays on the final day of the WIAA State Track and Field Championships Saturday, June 2, in La Crosse.
Dierks, the defending Division 1 state runner-up in the hurdles, placed fourth in Saturday's finals with a time of 15.23 seconds to pick up her second state medal in the event.
Dierks also teamed up with seniors Anna Wilgren, Kady Kochendorfer and Lexi LeFever to earn a fourth place medal in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1 minute, 42.7 seconds.
River Falls' medal came from the 4x400 team of junior Sarah Langlois, sophomore Sarah Schneckenberger, freshman Rachel Randleman and sophomore Emily Banitt with a sixth place time of 3:58.88.
Both Hudson and River Falls girls 4x100 relay teams reached Saturday's finals and the Raider team of Wilgren, Kochendorfer, junior Emma Olson and LeFever finished eighth in 49.57 seconds while the Wildcat team of senior Sam Krueger, Banitt, freshman Madison Berg and junior Sofia Naranjo Mata were disqualified by a bad handoff.
Naranjo Mata also ran in the 100 meter dash finals and placed eighth in 12.78 seconds.
Hudson sophomore Anna Czupryna came in 19th in the 800 meter run in 2:22.3, while teammates Rachel Ball and Alicia Belany finished 17th and 24th in the 1600 meter run with times of 5:16.99 and 5:29.7, respectively.
Wildcat junior Jared Creen finished eighth in Saturday's triple jump competition with a distance of 21-feet, 6.75-inches while the River Falls boys 4x800 meter relay team of junior Jared Syverson, senior Brayden Richison, freshman Joshua Linton and senior Tyler Cernohous kicked off the final day of the state meet with a 19th place time of 8:18.91.
