Wrestling: Ten Raiders advance to sectional

Matthew Feia, Leo Draveling and Logan Hatch headline a list of ten Hudson wrestlers who qualified for next weekend's sectional tournament at the WIAA Division 1 regional Saturday, Feb. 9 in Chippewa Falls.

Feia, Draveling and Hatch all won individual titles as the Raiders finished second overall at the eight-team regional. River Falls claimed the team title with 228 points and Hudson was second with 214 while Menomonie finished third with 174.5.

Joining Feia, Draveling and Hatch at the individual sectional will be Peter Hansen, Hank Gierke, Jacob Fanning, Joey Sullivan, Jacob Hansen, Ben Steltzner and Eric Stubbendick.

Feia earned a 13-8 decision over River Falls' Owen Larson to capture the 120 pound title and Draveling pinned River Falls' Bennett Cernohous in the 126 pound championship match while Hatch posted a 19-4 technical fall over Tyler Dennis of New Richmond in the 138 pound title match.

Peter Hansen and Gierke lost in the finals at 160 and 182 pounds, respectively, before coming back to win their second place matches while Fanning (106), Sullivan (145), Jacob Hansen (170) and Steltzner (195) all finished third. Stubbendick battled back from a first-round loss to move on with a fourth place finish at 113 pounds.

The WIAA Division 1 sectional will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at Menomonie High School. The top two finishers in each weight class will advance to the WIAA State Individual Tournament Feb. 21-23 in Madison.
